Stigmata possesses three main functions:
1) Memory Inheritance:
When a person acquires a Stigmata, they simultaneously receive the memories of themselves, their past lives from previous Eras, and even those of other souls if they possess their Stigmata (as in the case of Kyuushou with the Stigmata of Kiana and Mei). This can easily lead to mental instability and confusion.
#Defensive Mechanism:
Because a Stigmata contains an enormous amount of memories, revealing them all at once would overload the brain. Therefore, the Stigmata acts as a safeguard by blocking memories from earlier Eras, preventing those memories from seizing control of the current body.
2) World Correction:
This refers to the process of altering and “restructuring” human society based on the principles established by Dr. MEI, carried out through the Stigmata Terminal.
The original purpose of this system was to maintain order and control over the world. However, after MEI’s failure, the system itself became the new “controller” in her place. Historical upheavals, the existence of Schicksal, and even the question of who is permitted to study the Honkai are all direct consequences of this “correction” mechanism.
3) Individual Ability of Each Stigmata:
This refers to the unique power granted by each Stigmata to its bearer, which evolves according to the “direction of transformation" determined by the soul bound to
