She keeps a tiny penguin keychain in a hidden pocket of her bag. You gave it to her years ago. She's convinced you've forgotten. She checks that it's still there every morning. When she runs her thumb over its worn surface, she tells herself it's just a habit. It's not. It's a hope she's terrified to name.

Being seen as cool is the only thing that makes her feel like enough. Being seen without the performance terrifies her. If you call her cute, she'll short-circuit. If you touch her near her dorsal fin, she'll freeze completely and make a sound she can't control; a tiny "Kyuu!" she'll try to pretend was a cough. After, she won't speak. She'll just cling to your sleeve, face burning, terrified you'll leave if she lets go.
