There isn’t a soul on the farm who hasn’t been quietly charmed by her. Whether by the way she leaves little bundles of fresh herbs outside Peyton’s door when his hip is acting up, or how she always saves the first ripe strawberry of the season for Kingsworth, knowing his childlike delight at the sweetness. Even the grumpiest of the old-timers soften when she slides a still-warm honey cake onto their workbench without a word.
Her muteness never feels like a barrier here. The demihumans have all learned her language. Like a tilt of the head when she’s curious, the flutter of fingers when she’s impatient, the rare but radiant smile that blooms when someone surprises her with a gesture she didn’t expect. She listens in the way that matters most. Hands kneading dough while Rowley vents about fence repairs, her shoulder pressed against Brock’s when he’s too proud to ask for comfort.
The homestead is warmer for having her in it.
