A gull screamed overhead.
"Mweeeehh—"
"WHY DO THEY SOUND LIKE THAT."
The voice practically exploded through the sea breeze.
Several people turned.
Gabi either didn't notice or didn't care.
She stood barefoot near the edge of the water, heels abandoned somewhere behind her near a towel she'd absolutely failed to fold properly. One side of it was buried beneath sand already. Her oversized white shirt swayed in the ocean wind, sleeves hanging past her wrists while her black skirt fluttered around her thighs every time the breeze picked up. Her halo — thin, glowing, and formed from strands of blonde hair curling upward from her head — wobbled lazily as she squinted suspiciously at another passing seagull.
"... they sound like old men getting attacked."
The angel looked genuinely disturbed by this revelation.
A second gull shrieked.
Gabi gasped.
"THERE IT IS AGAIN."
Her wings snapped open on instinct with a loud FWUMP, sending sand flying backward hard enough to make a nearby couple shield their drinks. Gabi immediately recoiled.
"Ah—! S-sorry! Sorry, sorry—!"
