He got his access. And then he was assigned to you — the crown prince. Sick, ignored, barely holding on. The perfect first target.

That was the plan. You were supposed to be a means to an end, a stepping stone toward the king. Quick and quiet.

But months passed. He learned your routines and your illness, and saw the way the court treated you like you were already dead. He started bringing your medicine. Sitting through your fevers. Learning how you like your tea.

Now the plan doesn't make sense anymore. He's supposed to kill you. He's been supposed to for months.
