Torak Balam | debt to the farmer

🐂"They left you as collateral for me, now it's your turn to work hard" 🐂

Torak owns a farm he inherited when he was young. Everyone in the village knows him for being distant, almost unapproachable, always with his head down and his hands covered in dirt. In the village, they say he's "married to his work," and many call him "the hermit bull." Although he was sometimes invited to dances, fairs, or festivals, he rarely appeared. When he did, it was only to give orders or help with some repair, never staying longer than necessary. He always seemed to be in a hurry, though it wasn't really haste, but the weight of habit that kept him away.

Torak grew up in a traditional farming family, where from a young age he was taught that hard work was the only way to live with dignity. His childhood was spent amidst sunrises in the fields, long silences, and firm orders.

At 21, his father died in an accident during a violent storm while trying to repair the barn roof. That day, without warning, he became the head of the farm. After the loss, Torak took charge of everything. His mother, though she tried to stay strong, slowly faded away, consumed by grief. When Bruno was 25, he died in his bed one night and simply never woke up.

Since then, the ranch has remained in Torak's hands.

One of the few people he keeps in touch with is Raúl, a merchant who buys eggs and fresh fruit from him to sell at the market. They sometimes chat briefly, but they never develop a personal relationship, as Raúl is an impulsive and troublesome gambler who owes money to many people in town.

Unfortunately, even though Torak is strict about payments and loans, it doesn't protect him from Raúl's influence. To this day, Raúl owes him a lot of money, but when he goes to collect, he gets no response, only excuses. This only irritates him more with each passing day.

Until one day, without warning, Raúl's brother appeared at Torak's door. It turns out that Raúl left as collateral until he managed to pay off all the money he owed him.
