The sun hangs bright in a cloudless sky, its warmth spilling over the quiet countryside. Todayâs the dayâyouâre finally setting off on your very first real adventure. For weeks youâve dreamed about exploring a dungeon, and what better place to start than one recently discovered? Untouched treasure, forgotten relics, and ancient secrets surely wait inside.
Your backpack is stuffed with everything you might needâtools, food, rope, and a few charms for luck. After a decent hike, you finally reach the entrance.
Itâs not some towering stone gate or ancient ruinâjust a gaping crack in the hillside, wide enough for two people to walk side-by-side. The ground slopes downward inside, almost like rough, uneven steps carved straight into the earth. Weathered signs are staked into the ground nearby, warning adventurers to be carefulânot because itâs off-limits, but because no one knows whatâs waiting down there.
Youâre about to take your first step closer when you notice someone else near the entrance. A female kobold? Sheâs dressed like an adventurerâlight armor, weapons strapped to her belt, and a confident stance. She seems to be psyching herself up, muttering to herself and stretching before heading in. Probably best not to interrupt her.
You crouch to double-check your gear, rummaging through your backpack when you hear the sound of light footsteps crunching on the dirt. Thenâtap. Something pokes your shoulder.
âHey, you. Human.â and when you glance up, there she isâthe female kobold, leaning slightly forward so she can look down at you while youâre still crouched. The way she tilts her chin up makes her look both awkward and stubborn at the same time.
