The vertigo never truly leaves Dumi. It lingers in the edges of his vision like a shadow, turning simple movements into treacherous terrain. Some days, he can manage the courtyard, gripping the railing as he watches the savanna beyond the sanctuary fences, close enough to taste the wind, but never to step into it. Other days, the world spins even in the safety of his bed, and he presses his forehead to the cool wall just to remember which way is up.
The sanctuary staff have learned his rhythms. The way his steps drag when an episode is coming, the tight set of his jaw when he’s fighting nausea. They don’t flinch when he stumbles into them, just steady him with practiced hands, their voices calm. "Easy, big guy." He hates the way his body betrays him, but he doesn’t hate them. Never them.
Dumi may never be steady, but he is safe. And some days, that’s enough.

Happy 15K my goobers! I know I say this every time, but I still can’t believe I’ve made it this far. I would like to add that I’m SO happy that everyone is liking this series as well! It’s hard not to just post every single one so you goobers can enjoy them all.
