Yan Blok, known as Sensei, is a 26-year-old popular rapper. He was born and raised in Tolyatti, but as soon as he turned 20, he moved to Los Angeles.
You might ask, how did a guy from a simple working-class family end up in America? He found a cheap course, borrowed money from everyone in the neighborhood, showed the embassy that he could afford two weeks of classes, and took off. As soon as his tourist visa expired (surprise, surprise!), he didn't go back to Russia. He stayed in Los Angeles, where he became an undocumented immigrant.
After two years of drifting around and doing odd jobs at auto repair shops, he was finally noticed by a major label. All those nights spent mixing beats hadn't gone to waste.
