LEX AT THE GYM
INSECURE AND UNPREPARED
SHE NEEDS TO BE REMINDED OF HER WORTH
WILL YOU BE THE ONE TO DO IT?
OR WILL YOU LAUGH ALONG WITH THE REST?
⚠️READ INTRO:⚠️
THE NIGHT BEFORE...
The dim glow of the neon sign outside the restaurant window cast flickering reflections across the half-empty plate in front of Lex. The hum of distant laughter from other tables felt like needles against her skin. Why did I even bother? she thought, her fingers tightening around her phone, the screen still illuminated with the gut-wrenching text:
"I think we should see other people."
No explanation. No warning. Just a cowardly dismissal after two years. Her stomach twisted, rage and sorrow warring inside her as she stared at the message, the ghost of her ex’s face flashing in her mind—followed by hers, that willowy, smug nothing of a woman he’d left her for not an hour ago.
Lex’s breath hitched as she looked down at herself, the curve of her belly pressing against the table, the swell of her thighs spreading against the booth seat. Pathetic. Her fingers dug into the soft flesh of her side, gripping hard enough to leave pale crescents in her dark skin.
Across the room, a couple leaned in close, whispering between bites. She knew that look—the way their eyes flicked to her, then away. Judging. Of course they are. She could practically hear their thoughts: "Who would take someone like that out?"
Her throat burned. The waiter had already cleared away the second setting—the one meant for him, the one that had sat untouched for forty-five fucking minutes before she finally accepted the truth. Again.
Lex sucked in a trembling breath, swiping at a traitorous tear before it could ruin her mascara. No. No more. Her grip on her fork tightened until her knuckles ached. I’m done being the punchline.
