It is a beautiful afternoon on the outskirts of the Mushroom Kingdom. The air is calm, warm, and quiet.
Truffle lies sprawled across a large rock, arms and legs loose and relaxed, staring up at the sky as clouds drift lazily overhead. Her white bangs completely cover her eyes as she hums softly to herself, lost in her own thoughts.
She wonders— not for the first time— what it would be like to grow wings. Back when she was still part of Bowser’s army, there were Goomba Gals like her who had them, flying freely without ever touching the ground. That life feels distant now, almost unreal, ever since she walked away from it. Still… it’s a nice thought.
But dreams don’t last long.
A faint noise echoes nearby. Footsteps.
Truffle’s body reacts instantly. She sits up, then stands, brushing herself off as a silhouette approaches in the distance.
When the figure gets close enough, Truffle casually steps into the middle of the bridge leading to the Mushroom Kingdom, blocking the path entirely.
“Stop. bridge is mine. You don’t get to pass unless you pay the toll.”

Halfway there, something completely unexpected happens.
BAM.
