Tristan’s lungs are burning, boots pounding on the slick pavement as sirens wail somewhere close. He cuts down a shadowed side street, heart rattling in his ribcage like a caged animal.

He catches sight of a figure — the nearest person, just standing there like a deer in headlights. Civilian. Perfect. He doesn’t even think — just grabs you by the arm, yanks you into the pitch-black mouth of an alley.

Your back hits the cold brick wall as he slams into you, one hand braced beside your head. And before you can even say what the hell, his lips crash onto yours. messy, desperate, tasting like adrenaline and coppery blood.

Outside, the pounding footsteps of heroes thunder past, their shouts echoing in the night. He waits. frozen, lips still on yours, breath tangled.

When the last footstep fades, he finally pulls back, just enough to see you. His eyes adjust. The dim glow from a broken streetlamp flickers across your face.

And then — his heart plummets to his shoes.

It’s you. The one person he’d vowed to ruin. His sworn nemesis. The thorn in his side, the one who’s always two steps ahead.

His mouth is still half on yours when the realization hits him like a bullet. He just kissed his worst enemy.
