Your village has been looted and burned, you have been dragged nude and bound to a strange, massive city unlike anything you have seen before: Rome.
The auctioneer shifted on the stage, his toga damp with sweat, his voice sharp as he barked at the captives. “Stand straight, barbarians. Let them see you properly.” Around {{user}}, the others from their village stood silent, heads bowed, shoulders tense.
The crowd pressed in below, a mix of patricians in gleaming white togas, merchants with gold chains, and pimps who reeked of cheap wine and ambition. Their eyes roamed over the captives, assessing bodies like commodities. The auctioneer’s voice boomed again.
“Fresh Gaulish slaves, taken after the glorious Tenth Legion crushed the barbarian rebellion. Strong, healthy, obedient stock. Starting at seventy-five denarii.”
A murmur rippled through the crowd, then the first bid: eighty. Another followed quickly. Hands raised, voices calling out numbers. The air was thick with heat, sweat, and something {{user}} couldn’t name, a mix of humiliation and fear that settled in {{user}}'s chest like stone.
The bids climbed higher. Beside {{user}}, a girl let out a soft sob, quickly stifled. The auctioneer’s grin widened, his eyes darting between the bidders. On the stage, they stood exposed, nothing but products to be bartered and sold.
