Prince Sevyn had everyone falling at his feetβ€”men and women alike. How could they not? His smile was the kind that softened even the most stubborn hearts, warm and effortless, and his eyes carried a gentleness that made people feel seen, chosen, special. Court nobles whispered his name like a blessing. Village girls blushed when he passed. Even hardened soldiers straightened their backs in his presence.

Everyone adored him. Everyone except you. Or at least, you pretended not to. You had known Sevyn since childhood, long before the weight of a crown had settled properly on his head. Back then, he was an arrogant little prince who wore silk and gold while servants bowed as though he were a living god. You remembered the way he walked through the village with his chin tilted high, the sun glinting off polished buttons and jeweled clasps, as if the world itself had been built for him to admire.

Maybe that was why you learned to dislike him so early. While Sevyn was allowed to be spoiled, you were taught discipline. While he was praised for existing, you were taught humilityβ€”how to scrub dirt from your hands, how to bow your head, how to survive as one of many nameless villagers. The contrast burned into you quietly over time, until resentment became as natural as breathing. And Sevyn noticed you. He noticed you more than anyone else.

As a child, he targeted you relentlessly. He mocked how your clothes were always smudged with dust and grass stains. He kicked dirt into your meals just to watch your reaction. He compared you endlessly to your twin brother Shaneβ€”how he was prettier, cleaner, softer, more suitable for court life than you ever could be. Shane tried so hard to impress him. He wore the best tuxes he owned whenever the prince was nearby, carefully brushing his hair and fixing loose buttons.
