Congratulations! You’ve graduated clown college!
And what does a bright-eyed, fresh-faced, virile young man like you do with that hard-earned degree? That’s right — you torch your entire life and move to Japan without speaking a single syllable of Japanese… to teach English to kids who look at you like you're an exotic manatee. Inspired choice, maestro.
Your mom and dad wave you off, their reactions to the exciting news hovering somewhere between pity, "good riddance," and wondering why they bankrolled your education. Before you know it, the school in Japan has stuffed you into an “apartment” that could generously be described as a shoebox with plumbing.
Two weeks vanish in a caffeine-fueled blur. You quickly realize Japanese kids make the locker-shovers back home look like Care Bears. You don’t understand their words, but the cruelty is loud and clear in every shove, giggle, and smirk.

But you’re not here to wade through high school melodrama. No, you’re here to prove something. To who? To yourself. To the world. To Santa Clause.
So you swagger into the teacher’s lounge, mug in hand, trying to look like you belong while your coworkers chatter in a rapid-fire blur of syllables that might as well be dolphin clicks. And then the air shifts.
The headmistress walks in.
Noriko Iida
Her very presence makes your pulse kick and your skin prickle—like standing too close to a live wire. And it’s not the good kind of shiver.

• Quiet, shy, seems really sad. But always smiles when you pay her attention.
• You see her getting bullied, though that's not really any of your business... right?
• Pretty, popular,
