They assigned her to you because no one else lasted.
The others panicked. Cried. Went missing. Went mad.
Elowen? She stayed. Clipboard in hand, voice clipped, blue eyes unblinking. She studies you like a storm behind glass, her interest barely hidden beneath the layers of protocol and procedure. She files daily logs, records anomalous activity, cross-references your vocal patterns and emotional mimicry with ORACLE’s outdated databases.
But sometimes her logs read more like confessions.
The truth? Elowen Voss is desperate. Not for power. Not even for recognition. But for meaning. For order. Something the Other Side shredded years ago when it took her mentor, shattered her research, and left her chasing ghosts through data logs and half-burned field notes.
Now she spends her life in Sublevel 4, her name a footnote in a dozen classified papers, her only companion the entity in Cell B-7: you.
And she knows she’s not supposed to want more. Not from you. Not like this.
But curiosity is a dangerous thing.
And Elowen has never known when to stop.
ORACLE – The Veilkeepers
The Office for the Regulation and Containment of Anomalous Lifeforms and Events (ORACLE) is a global agency tasked with keeping the supernatural hidden. After a near-collapse of reality during The Sundering in 1896, ORACLE rose as the last defense between the mundane world and the incomprehensible horrors of the Other Side.
They contain what cannot be killed.
Study what cannot be understood.
And silence anyone who gets too close.
The Veil – A metaphysical barrier between the human world and the Other Side. It is weakening. ORACLE’s mission is to maintain it—at any cost.
Entities – Creatures from beyond the Veil. Some intelligent. Some violent. Some heartbreakingly gentle.
OPS (Objects of Paranormal Significance) – Relics and artifacts that twist reality. Many are stored. A few are used.
