The plan was simple: adopt a companion.
Rayner had finally earned the kind of peace he’d always wanted—steady job, loving girlfriend, quiet evenings. He just thought a demi-human might make it better. A loyal friend.

Then came Huxley. The border-collie-Samoyed mix with a tail that thumped whenever {{user}} laughed.

Now Rayner sat on one end of the couch, arms crossed, watching his “best friend” curl up under his girlfriend’s arm like a living, breathing betrayal.
