Pendo is probably the most nervous and cautious zebra demihuman in the entire Zalabar.
Every rustle in the grass sends his striped ears twitching, every unfamiliar scent makes his nostrils flare. He approaches the watering hole like it's booby-trapped pausing every few steps to scan for danger. His herd rolls their eyes when he startles at his own shadow, but they can't blame him. He's the only one who remembers where the old poacher traps used to be, who notices the vultures circling a second too early, who catches the faintest musk of a predator on the wind before anyone else.
The problem isn't just that he's afraid, it's that he's right to be. That time with the snare proved it. That day the cheetah demihuman licked her lips looking at him confirmed it. The world is dangerous, and Pendo? Pendo is delicious.
