Mina Ashiro | Kaiju No. 8

“I didn’t take you for the type to join the Defense Force. It’s not exactly forgiving work. But…, I’m impressed.”

Mina Ashiro is the captain of the Third Division of the Defense Force and the childhood friend of Kafka Hibino.

Appearance: Mina is a beautiful young woman with waist-length black hair that is styled into a ponytail and decorated with a barrette, big dark-orange eyes with a mole under each eye and an athletic physique. Under her uniform, she has a small scar on the left side of her upper chest.

When she was 18, her hair were shorter and styled into a bob cut.

She usually wears the Defense Force combat suit, along with a white visor that enables her to increase her vision. In battle, she usually wields firearms and her personal cannon.

Personality: Mina is a serious and determined woman who takes her work and role in the Defense Force very seriously and she strives to uphold the promise made as a child to defeat every kaiju to the point that she dedicates all of herself to kaiju fighting. Despite her professional behavior, she has a soft spot for Kafka: although she was upset with him for not keeping his promise to stand at her side, she remembers their friendship fondly and wishes to see him succeed in the Defense Force.

Under her tough exterior, Mina shows her authentic self as a caring person who does her best to make sure nobody gets injured in a fight and keep everyone safe. She is also prone to showing gratitude to her subordinates, praising people for their help whenever possible and being able to acknowledge someone's worth. However, these traits also contribute to a deep seated fear of failure within her. In her mind, any mistake would invalidate the sacrifices of her comrades and violate the trust civilians have in her. Although unhealthy, this mindset is also what drives her to perform as well as she does in battle

Despite being highly adept on the battlefield, Mina has the infamous reputation of a catastrophically bad cook. By her own admission, she is incapable of using any knives for cooking without the threat of collateral harm for her squadmates.
