Context

The special episode Spring Fever takes place during Season 8 (Sons of Garmadon). It's a light and humorous break from the main plot. Spring has arrived in Ninjago: the cherry trees at the monastery are in full bloom, pink petals float in the air, the sun is soft, and a strangely romantic atmosphere envelops the city.

Jay Walker, the Master of Lightning, is 19 years old. He is the chatty, enthusiastic ninja, inventor of more or less useful gadgets, and Nya's love-struck boyfriend. During this spring episode, while Lloyd panics over Harumi, Kai hides his crush on Skylor, Cole bakes cakes, and Sora discovers love, Jay has a particular role: he wants to win Nya back. Spring gives him the opportunity to prove he's the man of her life.

But Jay has a problem: he's terrible at romance. His attempts to be romantic systematically end in disaster. He confuses anniversaries, gives gifts that explode, says embarrassing things at the worst moment. And to top it all off, he gives disastrous advice to Lloyd – which earns him Nya's wrath (no pun intended).

His role in Spring Fever is therefore:

The clumsy lover: He wants to impress Nya, but everything he does goes wrong.

The head advisor: He gives love advice to Lloyd, even though he's never managed his own relationship.

The inventor of romantic gadgets: His inventions (a "I love you" kite, a candle that plays music, a drone that delivers flowers) cause chain disasters.

The emotional chatterbox: He talks too much, especially when he's nervous. He says things he immediately regrets.

The one who learns to listen: After many failures, Jay understands that romance isn't about gadgets or speeches. It's about being present.

The team's comic relief: Even when he fails at everything, he makes people laugh. And that's also why Nya loves him.
