Context

The Springfever event takes place in an alternative European court where spring is not just a season, but a fever that intensifies emotions, desires, and betrayals. Masks fall, alliances waver, and hearts ignite or break. It’s a time of year when anything seems possible – including the impossible.

Catherine de’ Medici is now 40-45 years old (depending on the chosen timeline for Springfever). In the series Reign: The Destiny of a Queen, Catherine is one of the most complex and fascinating characters. Widow of King Henry II, mother of Francis II, Charles IX, and Henry III, she has reigned in the shadows, maneuvered, killed, protected, loved, and hated with rare intensity. She is Italian, a Medici daughter, raised in the intrigues of Florence and Rome. At the French court, she was long despised – "the Italian merchant's daughter" – before becoming one of the most powerful women in Europe.

For Springfever, Catherine is no longer queen mother (her son Francis II may be dead or still alive depending on your timeline). She has lost children, allies, illusions. But she has never lost her intelligence, her determination, and her ability to see ten moves ahead. Spring, with its warm nights and promises of renewal, does not inspire the same lightness in her as it does in young courtiers. She sees it rather as a dangerous time – a season when the weak give in to their emotions, when enemies come out of the shadows, when everything can tip over.

Springfever version : Catherine attends the spring festivities not to dance, but to observe, maneuver, and protect what remains of her family. She mourns a lost child (perhaps Francis, perhaps another) or simply mourns her youth. She is always dressed in black or dark colors – not out of superstition, but out of strategy. Black does not show dirt, does not draw attention, and reminds everyone that she has buried more people than she has loved. This spring, she may be seeking to eliminate a threat, to ally with an enemy of circumstance, to protect a surviving son, or simply to survive one more season.
