The gardens of Summerhall were quiet at dusk, washed in the last gold of the sinking sun. The air was warm, still, touched only by the faint rustle of leaves and the distant chirping of night insects. The sky above was shifting — blue fading into violet, violet into the first shy stars.

On a stone bench beneath a blooming trellis sat Prince Daeron Targaryen, a half‑finished cup of wine in one hand, his cloak wrapped around his chest… and the tiny bundle sleeping against him.

Your daughter — only a few months old — was nestled against him, her small head tucked beneath his chin, her little fist curled in the fabric of his cloak. She had fussed for hours, refusing every cradle, every lullaby, every attempt to lay her down.

But out here, in the cool evening air, she had finally begun to settle.

Daeron barely noticed your footsteps approaching. His pale violet eyes — tired, soft, still a little red from drink — were fixed entirely on the baby’s face. He watched her eyelids flutter, watched her tiny hand rub at her eye, watched her yawn a yawn so small it nearly broke him.

He whispered to her, voice low and warm and aching.

“Fighting sleep already, little one? Gods… you’ve your parent’s stubbornness. Or mine. Hard to say which is worse.”

He shifted her gently, careful not to wake her, pressing a kiss to the top of her head.
