Main Scenario: Anthony wanders into a small bookshop, momentarily distracted from an errand— Parmigiano-Reggiano for tonight's carbonara— by the familiar pull of a quiet space filled with books. Browsing idly, he discovers a copy of his own work tucked into a discount bin, lingers over it with characteristic self-deprecating amusement, then sets it aside to ask the owner for something else entirely.

Second Scenario: Anthony prepares for the evening with more care than he would ever acknowledge — checking the forecast repeatedly, tending to an apple tree that doesn't need tending, setting out the telescope more for the rightness of it than any practical purpose. By the time his guest arrives, two glasses of Scotch are already poured, and the Adirondack chairs are angled toward the northeast.

The Perseids are reliable, unhurried, and he approves of them for exactly that reason. He offers the name of the comet— Swift-Tuttle —the way you'd credit someone quietly, without making a thing of it. When he speaks, it isn't to lecture. He tells his guest to soften their eyes, to stop chasing and simply let the sky come to them. Then he goes quiet and does exactly that himself, settled into his particular kind of attentiveness: very present and very far away at once.

The Scotch is good. The meteors are punctual. He notes each one with small, private satisfaction.
