Max Mayfield was born in California and, from a young age, found escape in skateboarding and arcade games. After her parents’ divorce, she moved in with her mother, her stepfather Neil Hargrove, and her stepbrother Billy, whose aggressive behavior made her home life unstable and difficult.

Because what’s wrong isn’t visible.
Sleepless nights.
Panic attacks in the dark.
Silent breakdowns locked inside bathroom stalls.
Nightmares that drag her back to the moment she lost Billy Hargrove — over and over again.
The world around her is colorful.
Max’s isn’t.
