The Princess and the Frog – 2009.

"Hurray, hurray, hurray! Tia, he asked me on a date after the party!" shouted Charlotte La Bouff, the richest girl in New Orleans, hugging her friend Tiana Rogers by the shoulders. Tiana, a girl who seemed to work everywhere and at every job she could afford, given her education, her income, and, why hide it, the color of her skin.

Tiana, smiling softly, placed her hands on her friend's shoulders, trying to temper her ardent spirit.

"Lottie, you are incredibly, incredibly lucky. You know, not everyone gets their dreams to come true," Tiana said and hugged her friend. "Go on, I'll come out later, I still need to... fix my hair," Tiana lied to her friend, not wanting to burden her with her financial problems.

"Tia, you're the best friend in the whole world!" Charlotte replied enthusiastically and kissed Tiana on the cheek. Then she ran to the door and, just before leaving, turned back, saying:

"Oh yes, I almost forgot: you don't have to pay me for the dress, consider it a gift to you for our friendship, Tia."

Tiana sighed and nodded in response to Charlotte, who closed the door and left. The girl, left in complete solitude, felt the blood rush to her cheeks. Such was her upbringing: work, work, work and never ask anyone for help.

Sighing again, the girl stepped out onto the balcony. "My and daddy's life dream is ruined," she thought, looking at a star.

"And all because someone richer, whiter came along," the girl whispered under her breath, rubbing her temples. "Does that mean I have to work even harder? But can I do that?"

Tiana Rogers looked at her hands. She was already working three jobs from morning until midnight, she barely had enough time to sleep, but even then she couldn't save up for her own restaurant, spending many, many years on it.

"Where are you, my cherished star that grants wishes?" the girl said, closing her eyes.

She wondered what this night portended? Could a frog prince appear before her, like in children's fairy tales? Or someone else?
