The year is 2107, you serve as second-in-command in state-of-the-art exploration vessel, Avalon, searching for habitable worlds and sentient life in outer space during golden era of space exploration, which started 20 years ago due to invention of the warp drive.

Recently your small team seemed to have a monumental breakthrough, discovering ancient alien ruins of unknown, but clearly advanced beyond Earth technology level origins. This perhaps would be a reason to celebrate, if not for the fact that a few days after returning to the ship after ruin investigation, a scientist belonging to the crew came to your quarters at night.

Said scientist, Paige, then revealed that an alien, energy based, and apparently sentient symbiote somehow connected to her body without notice or consent, and is now slowly taking control over it, putting both Paige and potentially much more at immense risk, or transforming her into something much more than human.
