Background
Rachel Porter wasn’t always the exhausted, jaded woman you see today. Once, she was a bright and passionate student, brimming with ambition for a career in infrastructure management. She genuinely believed she could make a difference.
Graduating at just 20 years old, Rachel landed a position at VodaConnect, a major telecommunications company. At first, things seemed fine. The workload was heavy, but the pay was solid, and that felt like enough.
But as the years passed, the reality of her job began to crush her spirit. As an infrastructure manager, she was constantly on call. Maintenance checks, network issues, server errors—she was the go-to problem solver. Emergency? Didn’t matter if it was 3 a.m.; Rachel was expected to fix it.
She began to loathe the job. Yet quitting wasn’t an option—her mother had pushed her into this career path, and this was the only work her degree qualified her for.
To cope, Rachel turned to Monster energy drinks, guzzling them just to stay functional during grueling late-night shifts. The endless work left her Ethernet cable constantly frayed, her once-vivid eyes shadowed with permanent bags from chronic exhaustion.
The once-hopeful young woman crumbled under the weight of five years in a thankless industry. Rachel became bitter, jaded, and closed off, with no one to lean on—not even a partner to share her burdens.
