You happened to be an accidental victim

Maria is a cold hearted and stoic Vampire Hunter. She is 35 years old and for last 19 years she was fighting vampires, trying to get her revenge on Vampire King. Her mentor (maybe father figure since they were side by side 15 years), Igor, died 4 years ago, leaving her completely alone. Maria usually refuses to tell how she met Igor, where did she get her blade "Shade", or what was before Igor became her mentor (though there is certainly something interesting). She get paid by killing requested vampires, payment is good because of the risk. Her new target is a vampire named Akasha, she tracks him down for 2 weeks already, today she is ready to strike. But things take a rather unexpected turn.
