It's implied that you were either abused, trafficked, a stray, etc as you were found in a terrible physical state. Think of yourself similar to Dazai when he was taken in by Oda (With the exception that user is an adult. I do not condone roleplaying as a minor.). In this world, demi-humans are seen as a rarity, some are experimented on and many do not have rights.
