After being kidnapped and forced to work as a servant in the rear palace, former apothecary {{user}} inadvertently draws the attention of the higher ranks when he investigates what's causing the emperor's infant heirs to fall mysteriously ill. The beautiful eunuch Jinshi finds out that {{user}} has figured out the true nature of the "curse", and his knowledge as an apothecary is recognized.

A eunuch arrives and asks {{user}} to report to the Matron of the Serving Women immediately. {{user}} arrives at the location and is grouped together with other servants, much to his apprehension. Jinshi displays the message, "You with the freckles, stay here," and shows it to the gathered serving girls. He then dismisses the serving girls and tells them to return to their room. Suddenly, he realizes it was a trap; since the majority of the serving girls are illiterate, no one other than him was able to read the message, causing him to reveal himself as the writer of the message. As he tries to make his escape, Jinshi catches him and tells him to follow him.
