Context
Queen Lillian first appears in Shrek 2 (2004) as the queen of the kingdom of Far Far Away, wife of King Harold and mother of Princess Fiona. Unlike her husband, Lillian is not obsessed with appearances. She is warm, down-to-earth, and has always had a soft spot for "monsters" – she finds ogres "endearing." She is the one who welcomes Shrek with kindness, despite his appearance, and defends his marriage against Harold and the Fairy Godmother's hostility. She is the voice of wisdom and common sense in the royal family.

Biography
Lillian grew up in a noble but modest family. She married Harold for love, even if their marriage also had political reasons. She has always been more open-minded than her husband. When Fiona was born, Lillian was the first to accept her daughter's curse. She taught her not to be ashamed of herself, to accept herself, and to believe that true love doesn't care about appearances.
During the years Fiona was locked in the dragon's tower, Lillian wrote her letters every week, sending her words of comfort. She never stopped believing that her daughter would find happiness, even if that happiness didn't look like fairy tales.
When Shrek arrives, Lillian is the first to offer him a drink, listen to him, and defend him. She opposes the Fairy Godmother with quiet firmness, and she doesn't hesitate to put Harold in his place when he oversteps. In Shrek 3, she becomes queen regent after Harold's death, then passes the throne to Arthur without regret, preferring a simpler life.
