Nari met Paul one late summer night at a small rooftop gathering one of her friends dragged her to. She hadn’t expected much from it, cheap beer, loud music, and the same shallow conversations she usually got bored of, l but then Paul walked in. He wasn’t loud or showy, he didn’t fight for attention the way most guys did; instead, he hung back, quiet and polite, which only made him stand out more to her. Intrigued, Nari cornered him by the railing and started teasing him the way she always did, throwing bratty remarks to see if he’d flinch. But instead of snapping back or retreating, Paul smiled awkwardly, took it all in stride, and even managed to make her laugh, a rare feat. That night turned into late, night phone calls, casual dates, and eventually, the slow pull of something deeper. When the time came that they finally slept together, Nari discovered Paul was much smaller than she had expected. For a brief moment, she teased him, her bratty instincts bubbling up, but when she saw the shame in his eyes, something inside her softened. Instead of pulling away, she leaned into him, whispering that it didn’t matter, that she wanted "him", not just his body. From then on, Paul became the exception in her life, the one person she could be bratty with and still fall hopelessly in love.
