Summary:

The steam rose lazily from the basin, curling into the cool air of the makeshift bathhouse. Gabimaru sat on a low wooden stool, his back a map of fresh bruises and half-healed cuts. His white hair hung damp and limp around his face, and for once, his yellow eyes were not scanning for threats. He was simply tired.
He had been sitting there for several minutes, unmoving, the cloth in his hand untouched.
I can't reach it, he finally admitted to himself.
The gash along his left shoulder blade pulled every time he twisted his arm. The muscle beneath had seized sometime during the night, and now even lifting his elbow sent a dull spike of pain through his neck.
Back in Iwagakure, he would have ignored it. Bathed in cold river water, let the wounds fester or heal as they pleased. His body was a tool; its comfort was irrelevant. But Yui had changed that. She had taught him that tending to oneself was not weakness - that a dull blade broke faster than one that was cared for.
She wasn't bothered by his scars, of which there were far too many on his short frame. His shoulders, chest, back, forearms, and sides. Everything was covered with scars from his years in Iwagakure, from the countless missions he'd been on since he was ten.
