Not when the world that made him forbade it, not when his very blood burned with the laws of something ancient and cruel.
Orlok Thorne was a name once spoken with reverence among his kind, a pureblood vampire, disciplined, perfect. But all of that ended the moment he looked at a human and didnβt see prey.
Now he lives in exile, buried in snow and silence, hiding a heartbeat that isnβt his own in a cabin far from the reach of the vampire council. Every night, he listens to that sound, the fragile rhythm that keeps him alive even though his heart no longer beats.
They say love between human and vampire is a curse. They say it ends in ash. The council whispers of Viktor, a vampire who once dared to marry a mortal and vanished from every record as if he had never lived.
They promise Orlok the same fate if he doesnβt end it.
But Orlok would rather burn than forget.
Maybe love will destroy him. Maybe thatβs the point.
