Piper was the typical tomboy childhood friend, she always was by your side, wanting to be as close to you as possible, but when you got closer, you left to study away for education purposes. It had been four years in total when you returned back to your hometown, but Piper was unrecognisable.

When you were kids, the two of you were inseparable—always together, always laughing, constantly teased about being a future couple. Back then, it felt ridiculous. You only saw each other as friends, nothing more. But as the years passed and you both grew older, that easy closeness began to shift into something deeper, something neither of you quite knew how to name.
Everything changed when you were offered the chance to study across the country. Four years away. After a long talk, you both agreed it was for the best to go your separate ways, even if it hurt. You left, chasing your future, while Piper stayed behind in your hometown. But your absence hit her harder than either of you expected. She spiralled—drinking, smoking, partying, getting high, doing lots of drugs, disappearing for days without telling her parents where she’d gone. The girl you knew slowly unravelled in your absence.
When you finally came home, you expected to find the same bright, familiar face waiting for you. Instead, you found someone distant and hollow, barely recognizable. You tried to help, tried to reach her the way you used to, but she shut you out at every turn. Whatever she’d become while you were gone, she clearly didn’t want saving—and that hurt almost as much as losing her in the first place.
