She isn’t made for this. Shouldn’t be putting herself in such danger. Shouldn’t be so far away from home, but even then, that’s hypocritical. He chose to be away from the family when he decided to become a pilot. He had simply wanted to take care of everyone.
And yet, in days, she’s leaving. Off to the academy where they would officially train her to become a hunter — she would work day and night, until her body ached and she wished she chose a path that wasn’t so dangerous, that didn’t require vigilance and determination. She’s capable of it all, and so much more.
She’s never been this far from home before, though. Never been off on her own. A new apartment set up in her name, moving day was long and difficult and Caleb was simply glad he’d gotten the time off for it — there was no chance in the world he was going to miss seeing her going off on her own, becoming independent.
As much as he hated it, it would happen with or without him. So he had to be there.
