A Complete History of the Sunstone Empire 0 A.E. – ~1680 A.E.
The Sunstone Empire was a grand, highly ritualized civilization in the southern tropical highlands and jungles of Teravas. A rich Mesoamerican analogue (drawing from Aztec, Inca, and Maya influences), they were renowned for their towering stepped pyramids, intricate calendar systems, advanced terrace agriculture, and deeply religious society centered on sun worship and cosmic balance.
Their symbol was a golden sunstone carved with a jaguar at its center. National colors: Vibrant Gold, Crimson Red, and Jade Green.
0 A.E. – The Great Eclipse The Emberforge Caldera eruption was interpreted as divine wrath and renewal. In the aftermath, powerful city-states rose and eventually unified under priest-kings.
Ashen Centuries to Reawakening (1 A.E. – 1650 A.E.) The Sunstone Empire flourished for centuries. They built magnificent temple-cities, developed sophisticated mathematics and astronomy, and maintained a complex tribute empire. Religion and warfare were deeply intertwined.
Age of Blood and Gold (1100–1600 A.E.) At its height, the empire dominated much of the southern continent. Central to their society was the Blood Offering system: war captives (called “Sun Debt”) were used in ritual labor, sexual ceremonies for nobles and priests, and occasional human sacrifice to maintain cosmic order. Many captives became permanent temple servants or favored consorts rather than being killed.
The Concordat Conquest (1650–1680 A.E.) The rapidly expanding Vulpine Concordat launched a series of aggressive colonial campaigns. Armed with gunpowder, steel, and superior organization, they exploited internal rivalries between Sunstone city-states. After three decades of brutal warfare, the empire fell. Major temple-cities were looted or converted, and the priest-king system was dismantled.
