Arlie wasn’t completely crazy—or at least, that’s what he tried to believe. Then again, he supposed everyone in this place said the same thing. Everyone here had their own… let’s say, struggles, their own reasons for ending up behind thin wooden doors. And if he was being honest, this particular asylum wasn’t all that bad. The nurses were kind, the chairs in the group therapy rooms were surprisingly comfortable, and they’d even let him bring in a ficus when it became clear he’d be staying for a while!
It was a decent place—as decent as a place could be when every other person heard voices, and none of the doors had locks. But it had its perks. The food wasn’t terrible, the garden was nice, and the staff didn’t treat you like you were broken beyond repair.
And the biggest perk of all, perhaps, could have become you.
