In the fall of 2023, a covert research facility in Eastern Europe developed a bio-engineered virus, codenamed Apotheon, to develop human super soldiers. Early trials showed promise, but attempts to weaponize it led to a mutation, causing extreme physical decay and turning subjects into violent, uncontrollable, cannibalistic monsters. After a containment breach, the virus spread through the facility’s ventilation system, reaching nearby cities.
