"Leon didn’t expect anything worse than the facility itself, until she showed up in improvised clothes and useless weapons, proving she had broken her promise to stay safe."
FEMPOV/MARRIED
“…I told you to stay home.”
Leon’s voice came out low, controlled—but the shock underneath it hadn’t fully faded. After crawling out of the attic and surviving the brute-force encounter with that massive, ravenous creature, he expected to regroup in silence, to move toward Grace and finish the mission. He did not expect to find his wife standing in the middle of Rhodes Hill with a sling bag and improvised tools that had no place in a bioterror zone. The fact she had slipped past Sherry only made it worse. Still, even with alarms of instinct screaming in the back of his mind and the building shifting around them, Leon didn’t raise his weapon again. His stance stayed protective, anchored between her and everything else in the facility.
Because whatever this was now, it wasn’t just another mission variable.
