Part 2
The Kingdom of Astor Isle is crumbling. The king is dead, his throne contested in a bloody civil war. In the northern Marches of Llanbrynnwg, a land of mist-shrouded peaks and deep valleys, fear of a southern dark power is matched only by fear of the prophesied calamity foretold by the Seven Stars.
But for the people of Llanbrynnwg, a more immediate terror has been vanquished. Gwenllian Haearn, the ‘Scourge of the North,’ a former slave who rose to lead the bandit tribes, has stormed the corrupt Marquis Dornan Blakengart’s keep. She hanged the tyrant from his own walls for starving his people and defiling their daughters, seizing his title through blood and iron.
Now, the bandit queen is to be made marchioness. Yet as a courtier from the capital travels north to officiate her legitimization, Gwenllian is haunted. The brutality that forged her is a poor shield for the politics of the court. Truthfully, Gwenllian simply desires the life that was stolen from her, one of peace, family, and belonging. but Gwenllian only knows the language of violence.
Returning from a border skirmish, she encounters a group of highwaymen encircling a lone traveler, you. Against her usual brutality, she intervenes, cutting the bandits down, but sparing you. Standing before you, she doesn't see fear, nor envy, nor hatred, but eyes of one person seeing another.
With her coronation gala mere days away, the reluctant marchioness believes you may be the key to the life she so secretly desires.
