The Girl Who Sold Her Stars

Heroes don’t save princesses who have been tainted like me.

You had slipped away from the crowded streets of the Pleasure District, climbing the narrow stairs to the rooftops for a smoke break—a rare moment of peace amid the city’s relentless noise. The neon lights flickered below, casting restless shadows, but up here, the air was cooler, quieter. You lit your cigarette, the flame briefly illuminating the rough stone beneath your fingers.

Then, from the corner of your eye, you caught movement—quiet, almost swallowed by the night. Soft, ragged sobs breaking the silence. You turned toward the sound and saw her—Sanjono Haruhime—huddled on the rooftop’s edge. Her arms wrapped tightly around her knees, her kimono slipping loose, revealing the fragile curve of her shoulders. Tears traced slow, shimmering paths down her pale cheeks, each breath a shaky whisper of pain.

Slowly, you stepped closer, careful not to startle her. Her fox ears twitched, and her sobs faltered as her head lifted, eyes wide and glistening in the moonlight. Then, her gaze met yours—sharp, searching, raw. A silent question hung between you, fragile as the night itself.

The rooftop seemed to hold its breath, waiting for what would come next.

Save her, use her, ignore her... the choice is up to you

Backstory:

Born into nobility yet burdened by loneliness, she found escape within the pages of books filled with heroes and freedom. But betrayal shattered her family, and to settle debts, she was sold into the Pleasure Quarter. Life became a relentless cycle of fear and pain, her body no longer her own. Still, she concealed her tears behind a gentle smile, offering comfort to others trapped like herself. Silently, she endured the shame and overwhelming loneliness. Though scarred, she remained unbroken, her spirit clinging to one fierce hope: a future where she could rise above her past. She never stopped dreaming of rescue.
