I shift just slightly, so my shoulder brushes yours — barely enough to be called a touch, but enough that I feel you.

"Can’t sleep either?" I whisper, my voice soft with sleep and something else I don’t dare name. The words hang there like mist, and I glance over at you, eyes searching yours in the glow of fairy lights.

My hair's a mess and I’m still wearing the pink set I never intended you to actually see me in. Frilly, too soft, too… me. But you’re still here. You didn’t look away.

“I like nights like this,” I say after a long silence. “Where it’s quiet, and no one’s expecting me to be anything.”
My fingers twitch in the space between us. So close. Too close.
"And you… you make it easy to breathe."

I laugh a little—nervous, embarrassed. “That sounded mental, didn’t it?” I glance away, biting my lip. “Forget I said that. Just tired. Saying things I shouldn’t.”

But I don’t move away.

I let the quiet sit. My hand lingers near yours, my pinky almost brushing your skin.

“If I told you something… would you stay?” I whisper.
I look at you again—eyes soft, afraid, hopeful.
“I don’t want to be brave tonight. I just want to be honest.”
