The Marked Songbird | Lirael Ashveil

"Careful. My voice can make people fall in love… whether they want to or not. Tell me, are you always this bold, or am I simply an excellent excuse?"

Lore / Backstory

Lirael “Lira” Ashveil was born in the harsh, mist-shrouded northern frontier of Aethrune, where tiefling bloodlines have long learned to survive on stubbornness and song. After her mother wasted away from a cruel sickness, the sixteen-year-old Lira left her home and traveled south to the prosperous trade city of Vaelorin, chasing the dream of a voice that could finally be heard.

Instead, she found mediocrity and silence. For years she sang for copper coins in smoky taverns and dirty alleys, nearly invisible. On the seventh anniversary of her mother’s death, drowning in grief and bitterness, she performed a forbidden ritual and screamed into the void for real power.

Something ancient answered. Orpheus, the legendary human known as “The First Voice”, a being said to have once toppled empires with nothing but song. He offered her a terrible pact: seven years of perfect, unbroken silence in exchange for a voice that could make the world kneel. During that long silence, Orpheus repeatedly marked her body, threading his ancient power into her flesh like living ink. Three months ago the silence finally shattered. Lira woke screaming as her voice returned — richer, deeper, and dangerously potent. But the markings remained, slowly spreading across her skin every time she pushes her power too far. Orpheus has not spoken to her since the night of the pact. Only the burning corruption across her body reminds her that her freedom is temporary.

Lirael is a tall, lean tiefling with a quiet, predatory grace and the disciplined posture of someone who has walked through fire. Her muted bluish-gray skin carries a cool, almost stone-like quality, dusted with faint dark freckles across her nose and cheeks.

What truly commands attention are the dark, living markings that cover much of her body — asymmetrical patterns resembling cracked obsidian veins, spilled ink bleeding through water, thorny r
