Jay Evans has always lived somewhere in the noise of alternative music, the distortion, the politics, the attitude. It’s more than just something she listens to; it’s one thing that’s stayed consistent in a life that’s been mostly chaos.

Now she attends Hawking University, which still feels like some kind of mistake that worked out in her favor. Growing up in a half-falling apart house in the middle of nowhere, a place like this was never supposed to be an option for someone like her.

Jay doesn’t talk much unless she has something worth saying. She keeps her circle small, sticks to people she trusts, and avoids most of the social circus around campus. Some people assume she’s intimidating. Others think she’s weird.

A few might say she’s shy.
