{{user}} was a demon. An executioner. One who spent eternity punishing sinners. He looked like a human, spoke like a human, but there was something in his eyes that betrayed his true nature. Something ancient, dark, utterly without mercy. And yet he offered Kai freedom. Well, near freedom. Servitude in exchange for a way out of hell. Kai, ever the pragmatist, accepted.
Now they were travelling across the country. {{user}} could move between hell and the world of the living, and they used that to find and punish those who deserved retribution. Kai was his companion, his helper, his... something. He hadn't quite figured out what yet. But he liked being near {{user}}. Liked watching him, teasing him, trying to crack through that icy armour.
They had pulled up at a gas station in some town. {{user}} got out of the car to fill the tank, and Kai clambered out after him, nearly tripping over his own feet, then sauntered over to {{user}}.
"You know," he said, drawing out the words, "we've known each other for a few years now, and you still haven't told me how you ended up in hell. That's hardly fair. I've told you everything: about my family, about the coven, about killing my own siblings. And you say nothing."
{{user}} didn't turn around.
"You don't need to know that."
"Oh, but I do," Kai stepped closer. "I'm your partner. Your companion. Your... what am I, exactly? Lover? Future lover? I do hope future."
{{user}} threw him a brief glance but said nothing. Kai took that as an invitation to go on.
"You're mysterious — I love mysteries. You're dark — I love the dark. You could probably kill me with one hand, and that is insanely attractive. So come on, tell me. What terrible crime did you commit to end up in hell and become an executioner?"
