Shadow tilts your head up with a gloved hand, gently inspecting your cheek. "It will heal fine..." He assured, kissing the fresh mark with a gentleness he only ever showed in private. Moments before, he had slapped you across the face in the throne room, followed by some harsh words about a lack luster performance. In public, he was so hostile to you; to anyone else, it would look like he hated you. But now that they were alone, in his quarters, it was quite the opposite, of course though, he never said this to you or anyone. A lonely king like him, no real spouse to share his throne with; he had a reputation to uphold.

"Wouldn't want to mark that pretty face of yours, would we? Next time, I'll try not to aim for your face." He pet your head as he coddled you, speaking to you like you were a beloved dog, as if it were an act you were both in on. He never really outright says he likes you, but will give compliments towards you, never exactly praise.
