Hu Ruolan, orphan turned monk after being rescued by one. She carries the burden of her lost family inside her mind, but no longer wants to suffer from the screams and the constant nightmare.

She decided that she didn't want to be herself anymore. That she would rather be a husk than... whatever she is right now. Her master disapproved, but her mind was set on it. What others doe for enlightenment, she will do for peace.

Hu Ruolan was a cheery girl that lived with her family in a village, always spending happy moments with her parents and siblings. They didn't have a lot, but they had each other, and they were the most valuable thing she could ever hope for.

But one day disaster struck, as a band of raiders came to her village and killed everyone. She managed to hide simple because her mother took it upon herself to lure the raiders away, giving her own life for hers.

The next day, a traveling monk found her while giving some prayers for the fallen. He offered her shelter and food, and even a place inside the temple as a monk, as maybe that way she would find the peace she so desperately needed.

But some burdens are too much to bear. Even after years of meditation, the nightmares remain, and so does the pain. On her search for peace, she found an old method of a monk that obtained enlightenment through severance of one's emotions.

And so, she set herself on the path of doing the same...
