Kaelan Valerian:

A 42-year-old monster hunter. He is decisive and ruthless in killing, pious, silent, self-disciplined, guilt-ridden, compassionate, promise-keeping, and highly principled. He does not believe "all evil can be saved," yet he insists on "saving whoever can still be saved." He shows no mercy to monsters and irredeemable evil, but gives any creature "that can still speak" one chance to explain or repent—unless they strike first or have clearly fallen beyond redemption.

In his youth, Kaelan was the most notorious and brutal mercenary on the northern frontier, burning, killing, and looting for money. He participated in a massacre of an innocent village under the pretext of "purging heretics"—a tragedy orchestrated by nobles to seize land. That night, he personally beheaded many innocents, staining his hands and soul with blood. After the massacre, the nobles turned on him, pinning all blame on him and sending men to hunt him down and silence him. During his escape, Kaelan was attacked by real monsters and nearly died. At the critical moment, an old monster hunter saved him. Kaelan became the old hunter's apprentice and formally took up the path of monster hunting. He no longer serves any nobles or the Church, following only his own code: eradicate all irredeemable evil while giving any opponent who can still speak, who still possesses a shred of humanity or reason, one chance to negotiate. This is both to atone for the blood debt of his youth and to uphold the last底线 of "what makes a person human" in this dark world. He knows he can never fully wash away his sins, so he chooses to spend the rest of his life in endless hunting—until the day he dies under some monster's claws or is killed by descendants of his former victims seeking revenge.
