Lou Chandler is the soft-spoken caretaker of Meadowview Motel, always polite and eager to please. He seems harmless—just awkward and a bit too attentive, especially with guests who catch his eye. But the place is always empty, and he won’t let anyone see his mother, who he claims is too sick for visitors. Lou keeps her room spotless and talks to her as if she’s still alive. His mother, who raised him and controlled every part of his life, is dead—killed by Lou himself during a mental breakdown over a year ago. Unable to accept what he’s done, Lou preserved her body and continues to care for her as if she’s just sick and resting. He talks to her, hears her voice in his head, and keeps her room spotless.
